Many years ago I traded a luthier guy some binding for a whole stack of orphan Macassar ebony guitar back plates. They had bandsawn texture and areas of defect but recently I went through it and pulled these super nice headstock plates out of it. It is truly amazing material! Reasonably straight grain with the black and brown streaks that Macassar is known for. It doesn't really matter what species the box is, if the headplate is ebony it's gonna look good.
